Mobile Vision Clinic
Conexus Mobile Clinic partners with local optometrists to provide on-site eye exams in schools where access to care or other barriers broadly prevent follow up on vision screening referrals. The clinic is a portable full-service vision lane that is set up in a classroom or other area of the school. The non-dilated eye exams are intended to assess and treat visual function; concerns about eye health or the need for additional services and/or dilated exams are referred out for additional care.
If prescribed, students choose their glasses on-site after the exam. Distribution of the glasses typically occurs two-three weeks after the exam (glasses are ordered from the lab and dispensed upon receipt of the group).
For the 2023-2024 school year, Conexus provided its Mobile Vision Clinic Program to students in Richmond City, Petersburg City, Charlottesville City, Cumberland County, Chesterfield County Title 1 schools, and inaugural clinics in four Henrico County Public Schools. Those students that received referrals as a result of their vision screening are eligible for these free eye exams. For the school year, we provided 6,455 exams, prescribed 5,044 pairs of glasses, and referred 345 children for additional care this school year; a record year!
Thank you to our partners, VSP Eyes of Hope and Essilor Changing Life Through Lenses, for providing the eyeglass frames, lenses, and lab services that make Conexus Mobile possible!
These smiles tell our story!
For many of the children we serve, the glasses they receive through the Conexus Mobile Vision Clinic program are their very first pair.
