It’s Back to School time all across the Commonwealth! Thousands of kids have already returned, and thousands more will be heading back after Labor Day.
I can still remember the excitement of that first day! The anticipation to see friends and my teachers. The new beginning that a fresh new school year brings!
But for countless children, returning to school also brings a new set of challenges. They might be returning to a classroom without all the tools they need to be successful. They have their pencils, their paper, their backpacks; but they are struggling to see their workbooks, the teacher’s notes, the computer screen.
Enter Conexus.
Each year, the dedicated team of Conexus vision techs, opticians, optometrists, and support staff work tirelessly to remove poor vision as a barrier to a child’s success in, and out, of the classroom.
This school year, we anticipate bringing our VisioCheck screening program to more than 100,000 students in 52 school divisions. In a few seconds, our trained staff can provides a PASS or REFER analysis for: Myopia (nearsightedness), Hyperopia (farsightedness), Anisometropia (unequal refractive power), Astigmatism (lack of sharp focus), Anisocoria (pupil size deviations), and Strabismus (corneal reflexes, symmetry).
In addition, our Mobile Vision Clinic program will deliver free eye exams to an estimated 6,000-plus kids across the Central Virginia region and Charlottesville. Because of the Mobile Vision Clinic, in a matter of weeks, a child may go from sitting at a desk struggling to achieve academically because of a vision issue, to a child with a brand new pair of glasses that they hand-picked and a brand new opportunity for classroom achievement!
