About Us
Conexus, formerly known as Prevent Blindness Mid-Atlantic, was established in 1957 as the National Society to Prevent Blindness – Virginia Affiliate. Throughout our history, our name has changed to reflect our vision and reach, but our goal has remained the same: to protect education through healthy vision.
As our mission and organization stayed largely intact through the transition, we wanted to select a name that would be true to our long history while reflecting our vision for our new identity. Staff and leadership searched and considered available options, ultimately agreeing enthusiastically on our new name, Conexus.
Conexus is the Latin word for alliance, which is what we truly strive to be – THE alliance for healthy vision. We represent students’ and consumers’ interests as they relate to vision, particularly students’ vision in school.
In order to protect education through healthy vision, Conexus provides two main programs; VisioCheck, our screening program, and the Mobile Vision Clinic, our on-site eye exams.
We also gratefully accept online donations.
