Conexus began partnering with Newport News Public Schools in the 2022-2023 school year. Since that time, Conexus has screened 28,771 students, referring 10,834 for additional care; which is a 36.6% rate. MORE THAN 1 in 3 students in Newport News have a vision problem that may be impacting their ability to learn.
With that in mind, Conexus is hard at work planning and preparing for a future that includes Mobile Vision Clinic services to Newport News schools, as well as Hampton, Norfolk, and Portsmouth; a total of more than 8,300 eye exams!
This March, Conexus held a Kick-Off Breakfast, in partnership with Sentara, and delivered a Mobile Vision Clinic pilot at Discovery STEM Academy in Newport News. Over the course of this two-days, more than 40 young learners received free eye exams; and the Conexus team will return to dispense brand new glasses in late April.
“We are beyond excited to bring our healthy vision programs to the Newport News region,” said Tim Gresham, Conexus CEO & President. “Together, with our partners, we will change the very landscape of Public Education in Virginia!”
